A New Endeavor for Me. Podcasting!

I am preparing for a new endeavor.  Podcasting.  Not listening but creating.  As of this moment the plan is for the name to be Sci-Fi, TX.  I will mostly be doing the podcast by myself with a little technical help and loads of encouragement from my closest and bestest friend who has podcasting experience and contacts with folk who do a lot more of it than he has.  I haven't decided on the frequency of podcasts but am going to aim for at least one per month to start with.

What is Sci-Fi, TX?  Well, according to the show it is where I live.  I have declared the corner of the farm where I live with my family to be the town of Sci-Fi and we are in NorthEast Texas.   No government entity recognizes Sci-Fi, TX's existence but that's not important.  I can call my home anything I want to.  Can't I?

The subject matter of the podcast will be, of course, science fiction and will have a little talk of fantasy works thrown in.  I will talk about current TV shows, books I have or am reading, movies, or anything related to sci-fi I can think of.  As I get more comfortable doing the podcast I will expand the topics to older or lesser known works that I am familiar with.  I hope to be able to score an interview or  two with someone else involved with science fiction.

I will not try to make the show about Texas but will frame it as this Texan's view of all things sci-fi and will not attempt to hide my accent or shy away from the fact that I am from a small town and live so far out in the sticks that I have to go into town to get decent, reliable Internet service.

Am I doing this with hopes of generating income or because I love science fiction?  Yes.  More of the latter than the former but I do hope I can make this grow to the point it will at least pay for equipment and the fees for the hosting site, neither of which are phenomenal but given my recently reduced income are a challenge at the moment.

Starting out my studio is my bedroom.  I have a decent computer with good audio editing software.  I only have a very cheap microphone now but thanks to the closest and bestest friend I mentioned earlier I will have a superb digital mic delivered later this week.  Since I do live in the sticks it is generally quiet around the house and while there is some traffic passing in front of the house I don't usually have to worry about noise from soon-to-be-deaf people driving by with 10,000 watt stereos thumping heavily, large vehicle traffic, or sirens from emergency vehicles.  When this picks up (having faith here!) and does well I will likely turn a spare bedroom in the house into a studio with some soundproofing to help with sound quality.

Let me known what your thoughts on this are.  Please.  I hope to use this blog as a means to have contact with listeners and future friends.    Expect the first episode within the next month.
